Skampa & Rezek - Cello & Piano

The Skampa-Rezek Duo was founded in 1992 and has already given more than 450 concerts. Their repertoire covers works from the baroque period to the present day. The pair will be performing a selection of their favourite works in The Chrysalis, and with the wonderful acoustics of the auditorium, it's sure to be an engaging display of musical talent.

 

 

About this production...

The Chrysalis is proud to host the Skampa-Rezek Duo for a programme of their favourite pieces. There will be performances of: Bach's Sonata in G Major; Shubert's Sonata in A Minor "Arpreggione"; Beethoven's Twelve Variatons on the Theme "Ein Madchen oder Weibchen" (from Mozart's Magic Flute); Chopin's Polonaise Brillante, Fauré's Elegy; and Martinu's Variations on the Theme by Rossini.

 

Skampa and Rezek...

Cellist Martin Skampa started to learn the cello at the age of ten under his father. At the age of sixteen, he was accepted to the Prague Academy of Arts in professor Sasha Vectomov's class, and graduated with honours in 1984. So far, Skampa has given over 2,000 recitals and played solos in works with orchestral accompaniment in 300 other concerts. He has played in 21 European countries, in the Lebanon and in Hong-Kong, as well as undertaking over ten concert tours in Japan. Martin Skampa has performed on such occasions as the ISME Festival in Bristol (1982), the IDRIART Festival in Prague (1978 and 1989) and the Youth Congress in Helskini (1988). His artistic achievements are documented on numerous radio recordings and CDs.

 

Michal Rezek comes from a musical family. Since the age of eight, he learned to play the violin and the piano at the Basic Art School of B. Smetana in Pilsen. In 1986, Rezek entered the Academy of Music and Dramatic Arts (AMU) as a student of Professor Toperczer. Besides several prizes from national competitions, he also gained success in international piano in 1990-1992. Rezek studied a masterclass at the University of Music in Muchen with Professor Klaus Shilde. He finishes his studies with the best possible award. Since 1990, Michal Rezek has been engaged in intensive concert activities both at home and abroad. He performed at more than 1200 concerts in a number of countries such as Germany, Austria, Slovakia, Russia, Bulgaria, Italy, France, Spain, Switzerland, Luxembourg, Denmark, Sweden, Korea and Japan as a soloist, chamber player, and soloist of ochestral concerts. His recording activities for radio and publishing firms are also very extensive. Since 1994, Rezek has worked as a professor of solo piano at the Prague Conservatoire.
