The Merry Wives of Windsor
16-19 November 2011
![]() |
The Merry Wives of Windsor is one of Shakespeare's most popular comedies, written with iconic caricatures set like a series of modern comedy sketches. The Longueville Little Theatre Company (LLTC) have signed up to the Royal Shakespeare Comany's 'Open Stages' project. Why not come along to this jaunty romp, full of ripe humour.

About this production...
The Merry Wives of Windsor was written somewhat like a command variety show, with the elements of female liberation, and the denigration of males clearly written in for Queen Elizabeth I's benefit. It contains the iconic characters (or film stars) of the time that people recogise, and it is rich with contemporary comic references.
The 'concept' of the Longueville Little Theatre Company (LLTC) is to place the play on the back lot of a 1950s 'Hollywood' style film studio, where Robin Hood and other films of the time are in production. Characters assume parallel roles within the status of the film world but stay true to Shakespeare's creation and text.
The Longueville Little Theatre Company...
LLTC have had a growing reputation for performing Shakespeare in recent years. Previous productions have included Twelfth Night and A Midsummer Night's Dream (both performed on The Chrysalis' stage), with the latter also being produced as an open air production for Jimmy's Farm in Ipswich.
