15 October 2011

The Western Front Association have organised a one-day conference exploring some aspects of the First World War, in talks given by leading specialists in the field. It is open to all members of the public who have unanswered questions, perhaps raised by current television programme Downton Abbey, or recent plays in MK - Journey's End at Milton Keynes Theatre, and Oh! What a Lovely War! - which presents a completely different take on the War's events - showing in November.

About this production...

The one-day conference will focus on the Archaeology of Plugstreet (Plugstreet or Ploegsteert is twinned with Wolverton), Women Artists of the War, The Battle of the Somme (with fascinatingly detailed reference to the famous film), as well as the newly edited Letters of Hugh Butterworth (cousin of the composer, George, and a schoolmaster in civilian life). Speaking will be...

David Cohen

Martin Brown

John Cooksay

The day will also include a delicious lunch, and there will be secondhand booksellers as well as authors speaking who will be free to sign books during the day. There will be many like-minded people meeting together from the Western Front Association and the general public, all interested in different aspects of such a vast subject.
