We are pleased to announce that the David Gordon Trio are coming to the theatre on Friday the 13th September for an evening of Jazz.
Since David Gordon’s tumultous standing ovation for his performance with The London Chamber Orchestra and his jazz trio at London’s Cadogan Hall in April this year, the David Gordon Trio has been delighting audiences during their Jazz Services tour of the UK.
The climax of the tour is a performance at The Chrysalis Theatre in Milton Keynes on Friday September 13th at 8pm, in which pianist and composer David Gordon with bass player Jonty Fisher and drummer Paul Cavaciuti will perform material from their recently released album ‘The David Gordon Trio Speaks Latin’ as well as their arrangements of well-known standards and David’s own compositions. Blues & Soul magazine, in reviewing ‘The David Gordon Trio Speaks Latin’ said:
“Their take on traditional South American pieces, arranged by pianist David Gordon, combine to offer a real South American feast. We get unique versions of popular music that captured the spirit of the ’60s and ’70s, together with David Gordon’s own compostion ‘Sambova.’ Haunting melodies … contrast with Gordon’s outright funky arrangement of “Duerme Negrito”, which builds from Jonty Fisher’s introductory bass playing sat on top of a solid piano groove, perhaps reminiscent of Ramsey Lewis or Ahmad Jamal in full flight”.
A visit to The Chrysalis Theatre to see and hear The David Gordon Trio will guarantee a big smile and a musical experience second-to-none. Expect nothing but the finest in contemporary jazz from one of Britain’s finest jazz trios, who will also be taking full advantage of the superb acoustics and state-of-the-art recording facilities at The Chrysalis by recording the performance for a possible future live album.
What people say about David Gordon and The David Gordon Trio:
“The David Gordon Trio is one of the finest contemporary jazz trios currently working on the UK scene. The breadth of material and tight knit sound combined with some highly creative arrangements and fine playing are a testament to three musicians at the top of their game. Highly recommended.”
Steve Rubie, The 606 Club, London
“I have played with many great musicians, but tonight I have shared the stage with one of England’s finest musicians and composers – David Gordon.”.
Christopher Warren-Green, conductor of The London Chamber Orchestra, at Cadogan Hall, London 18th April 2013.
